Manufacturing Process – Pigment Violet 23

Step I: Ethylation

Ethylation of Carbazole (Di- Benzo Pyrole) is carried out in Mono Chloro Benzene on solvent and Di Ethyl Sulphate in ethylating agent in presence of Alkali. This step will give slurry of Ethyl Carbazole. The reaction temperature is 30°C to 130°C

Step II: Nitration

Nitration of above slurry is carried out in Mono Chloro Benzene media on solvent and dilute nitric acid as nitrating agent. This step will give wet cake of Nitro carbazole. The reaction temperature is 25°C to 75°C.

Step III: Reduction

Reduction of above wet cake is carried out in Ortho Di Chloro Benzene media and Solvent andHydrogen gas and Raney Nickel as reducing agent. After neutralization and filtration of abovereduced mass slurry will getreduction mass mother Liquor. This step will give Amlno EthylCarbazole as mother liquor. The reaction temperature is 25°C to 95°C.

Step IV: Condensation and Cyclisation

Above mother liquor is condensed with Chloronil and Sodium Acetate is used as Acid BindingAgent. At high temperature and in presence of Benzene Sulfonyl Chloride above condensed mass willcyclised. After hot filtration, Methanol and hot water washing will get crude Pigment Violet 23will get Crude Pigment Violet 23. The reaction temperature is 5° C to 85°C.

Step V: Pigmentation

Above dry crude is grinded in kneader with salt in presence of Diethylation glycol will give cakeof kneading mass.

Step VI: Acid Treatment

Make slurry of above cake in hot water and hydrochloric acid. After filtration and hot waterwashing will give wet cake of Pigment Violet 23.

Step VII: Drying

After drying of above wet cake in Spin Flash or Tray Dryer will give powder form of PigmentViolet 23.
